My City School is designed for bright, capable students who want to learn and are able to participate successfully in a small, collaborative classroom community—but whose learning differences make traditional classrooms unnecessarily difficult.

They are not lacking intelligence. They need a different pathway to access it.
Who is MCS not designed for?
Because our model depends on a highly collaborative, academically engaged community, MCS is not designed to provide the intensive behavioral, therapeutic, or emotionally high-need-specific supports some students require.
We believe being clear about fit is part of being a responsible school.
Tuition, Financial Assistance & Student Support
My City School is funded by participating families with the capacity to pay tuition comparing with peer schools in the area. Some financial assistance is available and is offered each year. MCS provides academic and life skill support for students throughout the school day. Some students may also benefit from additional specialized services outside of the school's program to meet their individual needs and prepare for 9th grade.
Our Process
Step 1: Once a family has contacted MCS, an initial 45 minute phone call will be scheduled to discuss what the prospective family is looking for in an educational environment for their child.
Step 2: If through the initial screening call, it sounds like MCS could be a potential fit for the family, MCS will review all recent reports from the last four years (report cards, all assessments or evaluations).
Step 3: The prospective family attends a 1 - 1.5 hour visit, where a MCS specialist will take the family through the program in detail and identify program elements that align with the recommendations from the outside evaluations. Also during this time, MCS may identify and or discuss potential outside services that may be needed to support the whole child in their educational journey.
Step 4: If the family and MCS continue to feel MCS could be the best fit for the child, the student will attend a 2-3 participation visit days. During this time, the student will join the scheduled class activities, as well as work with MCS specialists looking at their willingness to learn differently, curiosity levels, motivational factors, EF, Critical Thinking, math, reading and writing skills.
Step 5: Once the potential student visit concludes, feedback is collected from all specialists and teachers that interacted with the student. MCS will then reach out to the prospective family and offer enrollment or other alternatives that best support their child.
Tuition
Every year, MCS makes a commitment to ensure we do everything possible to meet the needs of each individual student. This along with the costs of running individualized programming always costs more that the price of tuition. We count on our families and broader community to make up this difference of $4,000 per student.

2026-27 Annual Tuition $46,000 which includes:
$3500 experiential learning fees
4:1 student teacher ratio
Adaptable, individualized learning plans designed to foster independence and advocacy
Embedded social-emotional, executive functioning (EF), and study skills across subjects
Dedicated wellness and EF classes
Outings and community service projects
Financial Assistance
MCS provides limited scholarship assistance to families in need every year, and believes every student should be given the tools to succeed. Families who qualify are not guaranteed to receive aid, or to receive it to the full extent of their assessed need. For families applying for the 2025-2026 school year, we encourage families to complete their 2024 taxes early to help with the application process. There is no guarantee that additional funds will be available for a second round of financial assistance applications and awards.
