MCS Optimizes Learning through High Support and High Expectations in an Individualized, Small Group Setting.

Small Setting, Broad Impact

My City School’s home base is our Learning Lab in the Fulton Park Clubhouse and can accommodate up to 13 students. Students also learn through discovery and exploration by utilizing the incredible resources of the Bay Area as extended learning labs.

We operate on a block schedule to allow time for project-based learning and we have extended school hours three days per week from 8:30 - 4pm.

Optimize Learning

We understand the need for students to be emotionally grounded in order to maximize every learning opportunity. Every student’s journey at My City School begins with getting to know their emotional landscape: self-esteem, academic triggers or wounding, learning styles and curiosity levels. From there, we build confidence in our learners through their strengths and motivational factors while supporting and strengthening their academic outcomes.

High Support & High Expectations

Critically, the classroom with a maximum of 4:1 student to teacher ratio (for core classes) emphasizes high support for students and, in partnership with parents, high expectations for students to stretch in their effort to learn. Based on each students needs, we offer a rigorous individualized and leveled curriculum for success.

Learn Individually within a Group

Our students receive the best of both worlds: they learn with their peers and receive individualized materials. Over the course of a decade and beyond, My City School has gathered a wealth of materials and approaches to help students with unique learning profiles access our curriculum. The individualization is built into our responsive curriculum.

Our Program Philosophy

We believe in the academic potential of our students! We systematically identify roadblocks to learning and pave the way to move past them. Through the four pillars of learning, our program makes learning easier. Over time, most of our students are able to engage with the same level of work (with or without accommodations) as their neurotypical peers. Students learn study skills at MCS that prepare them well for their next school. We leave no road untraveled when it comes to learning!
