Our Accomplishments
SF Science Fair Success
|
Our award-winning STEAM program has supported our student's deep exploration in Science and Math, aiding in their success and placing in the San Francisco Science Fair for over 11 years! As a team, our students research hypotheses, develop plans using the Scientific Method, conduct experiments, and analyze results to make new discoveries and a positive impact in their world!

Leaps for Education!
Each year we support over 100 incoming teachers from SFSU to observe the program and learn differentiation techniques. It's important to us that we're not only able to share our program with teachers, but also partner and provide feedback for others looking to change the world of education. MCS has been providing valuable feedback to the DIAGRAM Center on an accessibility tool called Mathshare (funded in part by the Department of Education), which will make math more accessible for individuals with different learning needs.
We offer up to five free workshops a year for the community, parents, educators etc. that teach additional ways to reach students and make learning easier. Sharing our program and skills with the community allows us to make a move towards changing education for those with Learning Differences, and furthering the belief that education should be made accessible to all. Each year, MCS leadership provides over 100 hours of free services for families looking for ways to support their child who struggles with learning. MCS is happy to provide scholarship assistance to families in need every year and believes every student should be given the tools to succeed. |

SPARK ProjectsOur year-end SPARK project (which integrates all core subjects) helps our students see that they really can make a difference in the world. SPARK is based on exploring social justice, and the environmental footprint we make as a whole. Through each unique project, students use skills founded in the Scientific Method, the Design Thinking, and Engineering Design Process to ID a problem, break down the issue, ID solutions, and create community involvement around their project topic. Students have even presented their projects to the environmental charities they research, and have been recognized as major portrayers of positive environmental change! Students have also raised money for Urban Friends of San Francisco, Wildcare in San Rafael, and cancer research related to smoking through these projects. With their hard work and dedication, our students have truly made a difference in their community, and helped others take a step towards a better, cleaner world!

Community Outreach
For us, the environment we learn in doesn't just include the classroom - it includes our outdoor community as well. For the last 11 years, we have partnered with local organizations such as The Marine Mammal Center, annually work with organizations focused on restoring the environment, such as Save the Bay, SF Rec & Park, The Presidio, as well as yearly community service with The SF/Marin food bank. We are also proud to work with libraries and other organizations to improve existing literacy programs for children and adults.

International Education to New TeachersAt MCS, we love sharing our teaching techniques with other educators. For over 4 years, we've been proud to host future student teachers all the way from Tokyo Seitoku University to observe our teaching style and experience our 4 Pillars of Learning. Using this platform, new student teachers practice the building, drawing, explaining and finally written symbolic work that traditional education often starts with. We're so happy to host them and help our teaching community grow!
