The
Whole Child

It's How We Learn!

It's not just school!

At My City School, we understand students need to be emotionally grounded in order to maximize every learning opportunity. It begins with getting to know our students, their emotional landscape (status of self-esteem, academic wounding or triggers), learning styles, background knowledge and curiosity level. We bring out the confidence in our learners by teaching through their strengths and motivational factors while supporting the exploration and building of their opportunities.

Bridge to Action

My City School takes information from
student assessments to meeting each student
where they are academically and emotionally.

•Educational Evaluation Assessments/Psychoeducational/Neuropsychology Evaluations

•Student Self Profiles: how they like to learn, environmental factors that enhance learning, favorite things, personal themes, motivational factors and curiosity levels

•Parent Intake: Information processing, output performance, attention & memory inventory

•Executive Functioning Assessment with developmental goals inspired by the work from Sarah Ward

•Assessments for Expressive, Comprehension, Math foundational skill sets

•Procedural vs. Conceptual learner

 Wellness Class

Our Wellness Class facilitates the discovery of self-awareness and the development of healthy coping skills. Personal journal creations build a personalized resource book for each student to refer to. New topics are introduced each week and include:
  • My Stellar Self
  • What gives me good energy?
  • What drains my energy?
  • What helps me to rejuvenate?
  • Feelings – Inside vs. Outside
  • Triggers
  • Anxiety
  • Gifts that come with learning differently
  • Being Present
  • Respecting yourself and others
  • Empathy
  • Trust
  • Resiliency
  • Mindfulness
  • Our brain
  • Body mind integration
  • Wheel of Awareness from Dan Siegel
Many wellness activities are inspired from Imago Therapy, work by Dan Siegel, and the book Digging Deep.

"If you are always trying to be NORMAL, you will never know how AMAZING you can be."
----Maya Angelou

The Success Triangle

Research shows that kids who learn differently require additional support in the following 3 areas for life success...

1)Learning to self advocate: Understanding their strengths & challenges; having the ability to articulate and get their needs met.

2) Having one adult who truly believes in them: One adult who can see the bigger picture and see they are an inherently good person.

3) Being able to make a couple of friends: Feeling they have a support network of people who understand them and can be there in a time of need.
