Small Setting, Broad Learning, Extended Day
My City School connects students’ learning experiences to the real world by utilizing the incredible resources of the bay Area as extended learning laboratories. To allow for these opportunities, we have extended school hours three days per week from 8:30 - 5:00.
High Support & High Expectations
At My City School, students learn through discovery and exploration while they acquire essential skills needed to become self-starters and independent learners. Critically, the classroom with a 3:1 student to teacher ratio (for core classes) emphasizes high support for students and, in partnership with parents, high expectations for students to stretch in their effort to learn.
Integrated Social and Life Skills
Social and life skill support is woven into the daily fabric of our program, through our model of supportive, immediate feedback. The development of executive functioning skills is integrated with core academic classes as well as our experiential learning. We prepare students for life, not just school.
Youth Community Service
Emerging adolescents are constantly reminded of their roles as leaders and responsible citizens in our community as they actively participate in thoughtfully organized service programs and environmental stewardship. Students participate in community service projects that have direct tie to Science, History, environmental stewardship and so much more. They learn about connections between cause and effect, and develop a deeper understanding of both community and global challenges.
